Background
Erin began his career in Landscape Architecture before he even knew it as a young boy working on the Carroll family farm, where his favorite tasks were working in the gardens and fruit orchards. He later attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA from 1998 to 2003 on an athletic tennis scholarship, earning a bachelors degree in landscape architecture. After earning his degree, Erin worked with Arcadia Studio, Landscape Architecture in Santa Barbara from 2001 to 2013, and obtained his California Landscape Architect license in 2006. He served as the landscape architect on the City of Santa Barbara’s Single Family Design Board (SFDB) from 2007 to 2011, and he currently serves as the Landscape Architect on the City of Goleta’s Design Review Board (DRB) as well as the Sign Subcommittee.
Philosophy
Decades before sustainability reached mainstream America, ideas such as organic gardening, recycling, composting, native plants, and conservation of resources were all a focus of the Carroll family philosophy. Today, Erin incorporates these core values into his designs. Examples include: use of California native plants, grasses, and succulents, utilization of recycled and local materials, green storm water management, incorporation and management of smart irrigation technology, and planting design for low maintenance and ergonomically appropriate landscapes.
