You don't have to use traditional concrete pavers to have a permeable driveway. This driveway in Santa Barbara uses different sizes of Cherokee Stone with a permeable gravel joint, which provides a beautiful rustic look. Driveway installation by Santa Barbara Quality Masonry.

Beyond only saving you money on a new driveway, permeable paving materials have many other benefits. Additionally, permeable surfaces reduce the quantity of precipitation that accumulates on rooftops, slides off of hard roadways, and fills ponds, rivers, and public water supplies. That seemingly endless stream of falling water picks up trash from the streets, oil and fertilizer from the driveways and walkways, and debris from the roof along the way. As a result, our rivers will become more polluted, and water treatment facilities will have to work harder. Choosing permeable paving, or paving that allows water to flow through it rather than rush to the closest sewer, is thus sometimes a wise environmental choice.
